A writ of certiorari in the case of William Crawford vs. the Marion County Board of Elections has been submitted by Crawford’s representative, Brett Pugach. Pugach submitted the writ to the Supreme Court Early Tuesday morning.
The case centers around an Indiana State statute which requires voters to provide photo identification before voting. Pugach petitions that this statue is unconstitutional, as it violates voter’s rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
Pugach urges the Supreme to hear this case due to the timely nature of the circumstances. Pugach states,
“In the wake of the two past presidential elections where voting irregularities have instilled a lack of confidence in the electoral system, and with an upcoming national election just one year away, there is an urgent need to restore integrity to the electoral system and confidence in the result.”
This reporter feels as though the Supreme Court should hear this case, as there are many voting discrepancies which exist from state to state. The Supreme Court needs to make a clear cut decision on whether or not such discrepancies are Constitutional; as such statutes can greatly affect the outcome of elections.
